Privacy
Tide Almanac is a reference site. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no newsletter and no third-party analytics. This page says what the site does record, what stays in your browser, and how advertising works when it is switched on.
Server logs
Like any web server, the site keeps a log of requests: the time, the address your request came from, the page or query asked for, your browser's name and a request id. A search term is part of the page address, and so are the coordinates your browser sends when you press “Use my location”. The logs exist to keep the site running and to spot abuse; they are kept for a limited time and are not used to build profiles.
Your location
Nothing is located until you press the button. Your browser then asks you once, and the position it provides is sent to the site a single time to find the nearest station, which you are taken to. It is not stored beyond the request log described above.
In your browser
Two preferences are kept in your browser's local storage and nowhere else: the light or dark theme and whether heights are shown in feet or metres. The site itself sets no cookies. Its fonts are served from this site, not fetched from a font service.
Advertising
There are currently no advertisements on the site. If that changes, this page will say so, name the provider and explain how you can choose whether advertisements are personalised.
Where the data comes from
The stations and predictions are NOAA's, described on the about page. None of it concerns you personally.
